Story
Hi everyone!
Welcome to our team's page for this years Walk for Hope - we are Colleen's Army.
Last year, we took part in the first ever Pancare Foundation's Walk for Hope and through our efforts and everyone's generous donations, we raised $1,734! This year we're hoping to knock that record out of the park, so on Sunday 28 April 2019 we'll be taking up the challenge again, but we'll need your support!
Firstly, a little bit about why we're doing this...
Pancreatic Cancer is the beast that took our Mumma, Wife, Daughter, Sister and friend, Colleen, from this world on 7th August 2017. She battled many hardships over the last 9 years of her life but this soul-crushing, disgusting cancer is what ultimately took her away from us forever and at age 63, she had so much more life in her to live.
Pancreatic cancer is quick to act. The signs and symptoms are often silent of passed off as other illnesses; it's hard to diagnose at first. Once the signs and symptoms present themselves, that's when the cancer is so aggressive it's rarely possible to treat. Mum had 6 weeks of signs and symptoms until they were able to be diagnosed and she died 3 weeks after that. 9 weeks, that's all Mum got. All we got together.
We want to participate in raising awareness and crucial $$$ to fund research to bring us closer to having a cure for this filthy cancer. This year, over 3,364 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Out of all the major cancers, it has one of the lowest survival rates with only an 8.7% chance of surviving at least 5 years. This must change - and with your support, it can.
So! If you would like to join our team and do the 5km walk with us, we welcome you with open arms - please do join us, the more the merrier! We, as Colleen's Army, are rallying together to do this for everyone touched by pancreatic cancer - past, present and future.
This cause is close to our hearts and I hope in sharing a piece of Mum's story, it will inspire you to donate and share a message of support (no amount is too small). All donations will go to Pancare Foundation's patient support programs and funding into vital research in the fight against pancreatic cancer, liver, biliary and foregut cancers.
